Derek Howard, founder and president of DHArchitects Inc., specializes in education, religious, parks and recreation, historic, and commercial projects.
At DHA, visuals and models are used for client understanding, acceptance, and approval. Mr. Howard strongly promotes open communication and honesty when working directly with clients, which he has done at DHA for more than 25 years.
Mr. Howard is an advocate of building information modeling (BIM), owner participation in all project phases to ensure client satisfaction, and construction partnering. As a LEED-accredited professional, Mr. Howard also celebrates sustainable design. A man with vision, Mr. Howard has personally designed and managed projects up to $14 million, and has experience as a design architect on projects up to $42 million.
DHA has seen an 85 to 90 percent repeat client base, and the company was selected as one the “Top 10 Under 10 Award” winners by the Cincinnati Chamber in 2007. In 2000, DHA received the Tri-State Masonry Institute Design Award. The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce awarded Mr. Howard the “Business Person of the Year” honor in 2002.
Mr. Howard is a registered architect in Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. He holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. As a former student athlete, Mr. Howard was selected to receive the Gerald Ford Award in 1997.
